Lesson pricing is as follows (updated July 2024)

30 minute lessons: $35

45 minute lessons: $52

60 minute lessons: $70

A $35 materials fee will be added to your first invoice and will be added once annually after that. This covers any scans, books, worksheets, or other materials the student will need for lessons

Lessons are ongoing, but each semester allows students and their families to reevaluate lesson times and scheduling.

Invoices are sent via email on the 1st of each month in advance for the lessons scheduled that month. Invoices are due no later than the 15th of the following month. If payments are consistently late (more than 2 times) a late fee of 5% will be added. Payment can be made via card, check, or cash.

Cancellation Policy

The effectiveness of music lessons requires meeting regularly. I ask that all students and families make every effort to make their scheduled lesson time and be communicative if they can not make it.

That being said, I also make my living as a performing musician. This requires that I ask for a certain amount of flexibility for the occasional out-of-town performance or rehearsal. Because of that, I extend the same flexibility to students.

Lessons must be canceled by 9 am the day of the lesson via email or text. One cancellation is allowed per month with no issue. More than one cancellation will put the student on probation, and a pattern of missed lessons could lead to removal from the studio.

A no call/no show lesson will be charged the full fee.

Books and Materials

All students will receive a binder at their first lesson. These will be continually updated with new music, theory handouts, and lesson notes. It is the students responsibility to bring these back weekly. In addition, each student will have a shared Google Drive folder for them that will have digital copies of everything.

To offset the cost of materials, students are asked to pay $35 per year. This cost goes towards printing, online storage, and buying sheet music online.

Recitals

Performing is one of the great joys and is essential to learning the craft of music-making. We will have 2 large recitals a year. One in fall, and one in winter. They will be at Saint David Of Wales in their sanctuary. In addition, several small recitals will be held during the year to showcase songwriting, electronic music production, and duet performances. Students are not required to participate, but is very strongly encouraged.

Practice

A good practice routine is vital to achieving meaningful results with lessons. We will spend time in our lesson talking about the craft of practice, and how to make the perfect practice routine for the student. If possible, a student taking lessons should play the piano every day. This does not mean full sessions every day, but could be a 30-sec rendition of a song they like.

Dismissals/Ending Lessons

Dismissals rarely happen and every effort will be made to progressively work through issues before ending lessons but students can be asked to discontinue if:

- Tuition isn’t paid on time on a regular basis

- has persistent absences

- has an uncooperative attitude

- has a persistent lack of progress due to insufficient and unwillingness to practice

If you would like to end your lessons, I ask that you give me 2 weeks notice, before the 1st of the month when you plan to stop lessons. This allows me adequate time to fill the spot, and avoids billing the student for lessons they aren’t taking.
